Will Wagner (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Birdie Tracker mobile application (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service.

When you create an account, we collect:

1.2 Golf Score Data

To provide the core functionality of the Service, we collect and store:

  • Golf scores (birdies, eagles, pars, etc.) with associated:
    • Course information (name, location via Google Places API)
    • Date and time of the score
    • Hole number
    • Score value
  • Course information you add or search for, including:
    • Course names
    • Location data (via Google Places API place IDs)

1.3 Group and Social Features

If you participate in groups, we collect:

  • Group membership information (groups you create, join, or are invited to)
  • Group activity (scores shared with groups, member lists, group settings)
  • Group invitations and join requests (including any notes you provide)
  • User blocking preferences (if you block other users)

1.4 Device and Technical Information

To provide and improve the Service, we automatically collect:

  • Device information (device type, operating system version)
  • App usage data (features used, session duration)
  • Push notification tokens (to send you notifications about group activity, invitations, etc.)
  • Crash reports and error logs (to identify and fix technical issues)
  • IP address (collected by our service providers for security and analytics)

1.5 Location Data

We use Google Places API to help you search for golf courses. This may involve:

  • Search queries you enter (course names, locations)
  • Place IDs from Google Places API (to identify courses)
  • We do not collect your precise GPS location without your explicit action (searching for courses)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain the Service: Store and sync your golf scores across your devices
  • To enable group features: Allow you to create groups, share scores with group members, and participate in group activities
  • To send notifications: Notify you about group invitations, join requests, new group activity, and other relevant updates
  • To improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns, identify bugs, and enhance app performance
  • To provide customer support: Respond to your inquiries and troubleshoot issues
  • To ensure security: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access

3. Data Storage and Synchronization

Your data is stored and synchronized using:

  • Local storage (CoreData on your device) for offline access
  • Firebase Firestore (cloud database) for cross-device synchronization
  • Real-time synchronization: Your data automatically syncs across all devices where you’re signed in

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

4.1 Group Sharing

When you join a group or share scores with a group:

  • Your display name and scores are visible to other members of that group
  • Group owners and admins can see member lists and manage group settings
  • You can leave a group at any time, which will stop sharing new scores with that group (historical scores remain)

4.2 Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services that may have access to your data:

  • Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Messaging)

  • Deletion: You can delete individual scores or leave groups at any time
  • Account deletion: You can request account deletion by contacting us (see Contact section)
  • Opt-out of notifications: You can disable push notifications in your device settings
  • Data export: You can request a copy of your data by contacting us

7. Children’s Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account:

  • Your personal information will be deleted from our systems
  • Scores and other data associated with your account will be removed
  • Data shared in groups may remain visible to other group members (as it was shared while your account was active)

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your data to these countries.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

  • Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
  • Updating the “Last Updated” date
  • Requiring you to accept the updated terms in the app (for material changes)
